Drew Daywalt
JoAnn Deak
JoAnn Deak, Ph.D., is an author and an international speaker, educator, and preventive psychologist. She also works with parents, teachers, and other adults who work with children as a consultant to schools worldwide on issues of brain development and gender equality. She is also the author of the award-winning book, Your Fantastic Elastic Brain.
Michael C. DeAloia
Michael is currently the tech columnist for the Plain Dealer and Chief Evangelist of Designing Interactive. He is perhaps best known for his term at the City of Cleveland as the Senior Executive for Technology Development, or “Tech Czar,” where he was responsible for the economic development of the technology industries in the City. He is the author of Lost Cleveland, which was published by History Press in late 2010. His third history book, also published by History Press, Lost Grand Hotels of Cleveland, was published in September 2014. Michael earned his MBA from Case Western Reserve University and his Bachelor’s degree from Xavier University. He currently lives in Lakewood, OH with his wife and their baby daughter. Mark M. Dean
Mark M. Dean and his family live in Southeast Ohio on a small horse farm nestled into the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. His endeavors as an author, lyricist, and poet are fueled by childhood memories of many family tales and exploits regarding colorful characters in his clan. Mark has had the pleasure of living in ten states stretching from Rhode Island to Arizona while also having lived and traveled abroad. His 20 years of Military service involved 12 family moves which gave him keen insight into the importance of bonding through stories, songs and poems. Mark struggled with childhood dyslexia and desires to payback all those that helped him develop his imagination through reading and storytelling. He has both an Undergraduate Degree from Miami University and a Maser’s Degree from Ohio University.

Laura DeMarco
Laura DeMarco is the author of the new book, “Lost Cleveland,” a trip back in time to Cleveland’s glorious and gritty past with more than 200 photos over 144 pages, and entries on 65 lost landmarks. Laura is an arts and culture reporter for the Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland. She specializes in local history and lost landmarks, an interest that began with teenage adventures through abandoned buildings and Cleveland’s industrial wastelands. She covers historical preservation, cultural institutions, immigrant groups, neighborhoods and the forgotten stories of Cleveland’s most interesting characters. Her multi-media “Lost Cleveland” features are some of the most popular on Cleveland.com. She lectures at Cleveland schools, colleges and historical societies on these topics and more. She has also written for the Cleveland Free Times, Cleveland Scene, Alternative Press, Magnet magazine and publications of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. A third-generation Clevelander, she grew up listening to her grandmother’s and parents’ stories of Euclid Beach Park, Municipal Stadium and downtown department stores and loves to share these with new generations.
Darren Demaree
Darren C. Demaree grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He is a graduate of the College of Wooster, Miami University, and Kent State University. He is the author of twenty poetry collections, most recently Tongues Out in the Garden of Spectacle, (August 2023, Newcomer Press). He is the recipient of a Greater Columbus Arts Council Grant, an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, the Louise Bogan Award from Trio House Press, and the Nancy Dew Taylor Award from Emrys Journal. He is the Editor-in-chief of the Best of the Net Anthology and Managing Editor of Ovenbird Poetry. Robert DeMott
RobeRt DeMott is the edwin and Ruth Kennedy Distinguished Professor of english at ohio University and author or editor of many books, including Steinbeck’s Typewriter: Essays on His Art, Brief and Glorious Transit: Prose Poems, and Astream: American Writers on Fly Fishing. A flyfisherman for more than half a century, he is a Federation of Fly Fishers–certified casting instructor and life member of trout Unlimited. He lives in Athens, ohio, with writer and editor Kate Fox.
Christina Dendy
Christina Dendy is a children’s book author with a wide range of experience in the K-12 educational market, particularly in history and other social sciences. Her published works include the picture books Hide and Shh! (April 2023) and The Wall and the Wild (September 2021). When not writing and reading, Christina can be found exploring various rabbit holes in Dayton, Ohio, with her husband, three children, and their furry friends. Guy L. Denny is a retired chief of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. A former director of the Ohio Biological Survey, he is also a past president of the Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association.
