Purchase Books for Your Ohioana Library

The Ohioana Library Association was founded in 1929 by Ohio First Lady Martha Kinney Cooper to collect, preserve, and promote the works of Ohio authors, artists, and musicians. Mrs. Cooper would reach out to local authors and ask them to donate their books to the archive.

Now, we have the unique opportunity of asking our members and friends to support us by book donations through purchasing books for our archival collection from our Wishlists/Registries on Bookshop.org.

If you've never heard of Bookshop.org, we can walk you through the process. First, you can look through our registries linked below and add the books you want to donate to the collection and then add them to your cart. When you go to pay, Bookshop.org allows you to choose an indie bookstore to purchase the book from and then complete your purchase. The bookstore that you chose gets credit for your purchase and a commission! This means you will get to support Ohioana Library and your favorite indie bookstore simultaneously.

For example, if you live in Akron, you can buy a book for Ohioana and have the credit go to an your favorite indie bookstore in Akron. Or someone in California can buy a book and have credit go to their favorite indie bookstore anywhere in the country as long as they are registered at Bookshop.org.

Our librarian made 2 registries/wishlists. The one titled "2025 Ohioana Book List" registry includes recent and upcoming books being published in 2025 by Ohio authors and illustrators that we are hopeful to add to our collection. The other registry titles "Gaps in Ohioana's Collection" includes books that have been published in previous years by Ohio authors and illustrators that we do not yet have in our collection.

Folks can “add to cart” from either of our registries and purchase the book, which will come directly to our library address and then will go in our collection to be preserved for generations to come.
